We are a safe place to explore faith, grow as family, and follow Jesus.
Our values
-
We know that human beings need connection to survive and thrive. We also believe that church is something we are and not just a place we go to. So spending time with each other, hanging out and getting to know one another is vital.
-
Life is messy, chaotic and often unpredictable. But we believe church should be a place where you can come as you are, no matter how you're feeling or experiences you've had. While we don't want to create mess, we do want to embrace it.
-
This world would be very boring if we were all the same. We learn from each other and church should be a place where we can disagree well and talk about tough topics. This means that creating a space where we can debate is part of who we are.
-
We believe that each person has incredible value and should be treated that way. We want to be a community that notices and stands up against situations that are unjust, whether that is local or on a global scale. There is always something we can be doing.
-
Following Jesus is our number one priority. This is what is means to be a Christian and why we exist as a community together. we believe that when we follow Jesus we get to experience life in its fullness.
Our story
It all began in Hitchin in January 2011 when a small group got together seeing the need to create a safe space where people could invite their mates to meet with God. Birthed from Soul Survivor Watford over the years we’ve grown but have always been committed to being a safe space here in Hitchin to explore faith.
Whatever you believe and whatever has gone on in your life we want to be somewhere you can come, ask questions and make new friends.
What we do
The Hub is one community with two Sunday gatherings.
The rest of the week we do everything as one church! We believe that Jesus calls us to be his disciples not just on a Sunday but in every part of our lives. From what happens at home, at work, at school and in our neighbourhoods. That’s why all that we do is aimed at helping us grow in this.
We want our church to be a community of people that live life together, whether that is socialising at Alpha or Football, encouraging and challenging each other in Mini Hubs, praying for one another in our Journey groups or coming together for a Sunday.
Inclusion
One of the beauties of being a church community is that we are all different - uniquely and wonderfully made in the image of God but with different skills and gifts.
We all come with different experiences and backgrounds and we want to celebrate the diversity of God’s people. This means that everyone is of equal value and importance at the Hub, no matter our age, gender, ability, ethnicity or sexuality.
Whether you’re single, married, single again, with or without children – and no matter where you've been or what you've done in your life – we’d love to welcome you and we’re part of the Single Friendly Church Network.
How we are led
What a lovely bunch we are. Our teams makes sure everything runs smoothly at the Hub from stacking chairs to writing song lyrics, we’re a team of people who are passionate about Jesus and seeing people’s lives changed.
Our Staff Team manage the day to day running of the Hub under the leadership of our Church Leader, Rev. Martha Inch. An amazing group of volunteers work alongside the Staff Team to set the vision and lead our various teams from worship to setup and welcome. We’re part of the Hub Trust which is a registered charity so have a number of trustees who look after the legal governance and hold us accountable.
We also hold a Bishops’ Mission Order in the Diocese of St Albans, part of The Church Of England, and we are accountable to the Diocesan leadership.
We take our safeguarding responsibilities seriously and we believe the care and protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults involved in church activities is the responsibility of everyone who participates in the life of the church.
Why do we do it?
We want to see our communities transformed by Jesus. We truly believe in a vision for our communities to be radically loving, compassionate and a safe place for anyone to find a home. That’s why our vision is to be a safe place to explore faith, grow as family and follow Jesus.
Friends
We’ve got some pretty decent friends across the globe who we love hanging out with and supporting both physically and financially however we can.
Soul Action - our friends in South Africa who are bringing equality and integration through education.
Phase - Phase is a Hitchin based charity working alongside young people to promote their wellbeing and resilience.
Oak Church - our sister church in Stevenage doing amazing work in reaching young people - we also try and beat them at rounders every year.
