Membership
Why do we do membership?
Our story in a nutshell is that we were established to reach those who wouldn’t go to church otherwise. This started with gathering those in their 20s and 30s and then developed to working with families as well.
As we’re often connecting with those on the fridge of church, membership was set up to distinguish between those who would visit occasionally and those who considered the hub to be their church family.
It is also a helpful way of knowing what to expect when you are a core part of the community.
Why become a member?
We believe that church is more than a building, it is a group of people following Jesus, it all of its messiness and complexities. Being a Jesus follower is a whole life decision, not one we can turn on and off. Being a member of the hub is one way this is demonstrated, committing to a group of people and taking ownership for the future of the church.
Membership isn’t a subscription service and neither is it about signing up to a cult! It is simply a way of making distinctions in where people are at.
What to expect
We ask all our members to agree to these 5 marks of membership:
Gather - come along to our big gatherings, which are usually on a Sunday. Being committed to the whole is important and you can set the culture by being present. This is the best way of building a sense of community!
Go small - going big is needed, but going small with just a few people is also very important. This is where we can be challenged personally and encouraged to grow. This could look like a mini-hub a journey group or being mentored.
Serve - the church only works if people serve, but also, this is an outcome of growing in our faith. What are you passionate about? What gifts or skills do you have and where could you use them?
Give - we dont do an offering at the hub. We want those who are visiting to feel free to come and not have to give money. But this is an important part of our discipleship and one of the key ways we can support th growth of the church.
PRAY - last but most importantly, we want prayer to be central to all that we do. There is nothing more vital than committing to praying for the community and for the leaders as we keep discerning where God is calling the hub.
Membership isn’t just about what we are expecting of you but what you can expect of us too. Although everyone is incredibly important, the input and opinions of our members are valued highly and we want you to help us shape the future of the church. We also want to see you grow, so you can expect us to encourage and challenge you in your faith.
Members Away Day
Once a year we do a Members Away Day to give us time to socialise, get to know each other better and look ahead to the coming year. This is a really key time for all the members and we would love you to join us.
Questions?
-
No, you don’t have to be a Christian to be a member.
-
If you’d like to become a member, speak to Martha and one of the team will have a chat with you, this is a great opportunity to ask any questions you might have.
After that, we like to introduce new members to the church by doing a short interview at the front.
-
You don’t have to stay to stay at the hub for the rest of your life, although we would love you to! If and when the time to leave comes, your official membership at the hub will stop but we’d love you to stay part of the family, even from afar.
